In Light Painting The Still Life, We Don't Need To Be "Matchy-Matchy"

"Eggs and Solvent" © Harold Ross
When photographing something that inspires me, like these beautiful eggs from a local farmer, I sometimes discover that the composition requires an additional element for balance. More often than not, the size, shape, and color of an object become more significant than the object itself.
While working on this composition, I recalled my “Squirt” solvent dispenser, which I’ve had for over two decades and continue to use regularly. Its conical shape and the height of its spout perfectly balanced the image. The color was an added bonus!
Does one typically associate a solvent dispenser with organic eggs or any other food item? Of course not!
That said, I often intentionally incorporate elements in a composition that have no apparent connection. These unexpected relationships can be both delightful and enjoyable!
